Just off the bench this morning…a trade to a friend who stabilized a mess of wood for me. It’s built on a stout 62mm Polar blade in carbon steel manufactured in collaboration by Brisa and Lauri of Finland. I fitted it with a stabilized figured maple handle with a recessed retaining nut that’s plugged and hidden by the brass/walnut/antler butt cap assembly. In addition to a friction fit, pins in the butt cap, and tougher-than-nails Gflex epoxy, he should be able to pass this one down to his son. It’s about the toughest knife I know how to make at present. As is fitting, its first task was to carve the lesta and prepare the leather for its sheath.
