  • Orphan Pack Axe

This little unmarked (orphan) pack axe camp up nice. The 1 lb 14 oz head is paired with a 21.5" hickory haft I made out of a board from the lumber yard. I laminated the palm swell and shoulders, although in hindsight the latter wasn't necessary due to the narrow eye size. The haft tapers nicely to 0.72" at the thinnest and has a nice working feel to it. I've come to really like the look and all-around use of the wedge pattern axe heads. While this one's not the prettiest thing out there, it'll happily get wood readied for the campfire or trail stove.

Looks unemployed, just begging to be put to work, and will look mighty fine doing it too!

Ha! Fine description, and an apt one at that. It limbed a toppled hickory yesterday. It just might be an axe yet...
