  • New Toboggan Bags

Finally got to use my new toboggan bags up along the North Shore last week. Still gotta tweak some things, but packing/unpacking was much easier with this rig than my previous getup. They're made from Cordura and use integrated metal G hooks for lashing. And...since we were headed into the swanky hike-in cabin camp at Tettegouche on this trip, the wannigan got to go along. 😎

That looks great! I'd love to learn to sew but I hit hobby capacity a long time ago...

Could you share more about the wannigan? I have been using a Plano box that works great, but of course that feels like cheating...

Sure! I built this from 1/8" Baltic birch plywood with an internal frame of straight grained spruce (think acoustic guitar body). It's glued and brad nailed together. The lid is laminated with cross rails that are glued and secured with hand hammered copper rivets. No fancy joinery...just simple butt/lap joints. Turned out quite light and rides nice and tidy on my toboggan when the trip allows.

Thanks for that extra detail. I think I'll start a wannigan thread because we need one here!
