  • Downdraft Deflector

we've been caught out a couple of times by the wind changing direction and blowing directly down the stove pipe, resulting in the inevitable puff of smoke back into the tent. I know some folk carry an extra elbow to add to the end of the pipe, creating an upward turn to protect from gusts.
The pipe on our Four Dog stove isn't sized to fit another pipe so I had to find an alternative solution. I had some spare titanium foil so I cut a semi-circle and wrapped it to fit around the pipe, secured by a hose clamp. The foil raises the lower edge, directing the pipe opening upward. Seems to work very well and is much lighter than an elbow and simply slides inside the pipe for storage.

Good thinking and good execution. Are you using the Four Dog titanium stove? I don't have this issue with the steel Four Dogs. The 4" terminal of the stack works with several styles of end caps.

I have a very old Ti 4 Dog, probably one of the first series made. The biggest plus is the super light weight of the deflector.
