Annual Winter Camping Symposium
Dates- October 21-24, 2021
Where- Sturgeon Lake, MN
Your Stay can consist of day trips to the Symposium, camping or staying at an available cabin on site.
Camping- There are a few areas with plenty of room to camp at YMCA Camp Miller. The Rec field is generally reserved for the “early to bed, early to rise” campers and it’s quiet. Along the lake can be a bit more of a party atmosphere at night. The Woods can be quiet as well, people are welcome to camp almost anywhere on the property. Parking is limited, not much space for RV style campers.
Firewood, modern restrooms and a shower house is provided.
Cabins- The cabins are reserved through the registration process by using the link above. They’re first come first served.
Lodging outside of Camp Miller – Many hotels/motels along I-35.
Classes and workshops generally kick off Friday morning and go all the way through Sunday. All classes are included in your registration. Workshops are included however, there is a class limit depending on the type of workshop and a fee for supplies. Workshops include snowshoe lacing, antler handle knife, Basics of BBQ, Cozy Cooking/alcohol stove build and treenware carving and pulk build.

Schedule of classes and Workshops is attached below in a printer friendly PDF file. This will be updated periodically as we get closer to the event.
Food- With COVID-19 concerns we have elected to have Chow Haul a food truck vendor for our breakfast and evening meals at the camp. Meal tickets are purchased at the registration booth and exchanged at the food truck, similar to what we've done in prior years with the YMCA cafeteria. Of course you’re welcome to cook and eat your own food within your camp or head to one of the diner/restaurants locally.
Keynote Speaker – We always strive for a keynote speaker each night of the symposium. With our current pandemic situation we’ve elected to not have a single large indoor gathering with a keynote speaker at this time. We apologize for the news but we feel it’s for the best. WCS announcements will be made in the evening at the outdoor pavilion.
Additional FAQS-
Beer provided Friday and Saturday Evenings with Four Mile portage providing music in the outdoor skills area on Saturday night.
Snowshoe Dip 3pm on Saturday. Fee is $15 Tickets purchased at registration booth. Dipping will take place in the barn north of the rock climbing wall.
Firewood is provided, they’re bucked logs at stove length. You’ll have to split your own or ask another camper to split some for you in exchange for a beer, handshake or a couple of bucks.
This symposium is family orientated. Children are most welcome and so are well behaved pets.
