  • WCS 2022 - Call for help with my cook stove & accessories presentation/ expo

My plan is to showcase various cookstoves & accessories with an expo-type feel on Friday lunchtime @ the outdoor pavilion.

I'm looking for 8-12 people to join me with their various types of cook stoves to display. Other WCS participants can wander up during that hour to check out what's on view and ask questions. Since it's over the lunch hour, I figure the presenter people would cook their lunch on their stove so people could see some in-use demos. (At least I plan to cook my lunch on my stove)
    1. I'm curious what brands or stove-types have YOU wanted to see in person, but haven't? Any in your Amazon cart you'd love to see before you purchase?
    2. What stove accessories or fuel-types are you curious about?
    3. Do you have any interesting/ unique/ antique cook stove you'd love to show off? Anything ultra-lightweight or DIY or one you inherited from your grandparents?
I've already put together almost ALL of the Firebox brand of stoves (from the Titanium Mini to the newest Freestyle model).

      Awesome! We have one response!

I'm looking for input and feedback to help determine if this needs / should be presented.

If there isn't much response here, then I'll think it's not necessary. So, if this is something you'd stop by and see, please hollar!

I have thought of doing this same type of course but for wood stoves instead of cookstoves. I think it would be cool to have20-30 different wood stoves all represented in one spot. The lack of responses may just be there is not a lot of traffic on this site rather than an indication that you course is not of value. If you do it, I have a diy rocket stove I could bring for your display.

          1. Guess I always thought part of the hot tent tour was to see various wood stoves, but I've never been on the tour so I don't know.
          2. "lack of response - not much traffic" You just might be right. There wasn't any response on my FB post either so I assumed lack of interest. Thank you for pointing out that might not be the case.
          3. Your offering to showcase your DIY rocket stove makes me want to do this so I can see what you have built. I'll keep you posted.

Yea sorry this site is a bit slow in the summer time. Although yourself and a few of us are planning things for the WCS, myself and others will frequent this site more often. it's a great idea, considering for most of us, our world revolves around cooking on the wood stove. Hope all is well!

                Hi Karla.

I plan on attending the symposium this year and have a lot of camping stoves, though they may not be considered cookstoves I guess. Anyway here is what I have if this is what you're thinking of:
                • Original JetBoil
                • Optimus 8r restored
                • MiniBullDesign Alcohol Stove
                • Trangia Set
                • Firebox NanoStove
                • BRS canister stove
                • MSR XGK
                • I think a few others that are escaping me at the moment.

I have some stoves and cook systems with various fuel sources people may at least enjoy get a kick outta seeing. One is a modified canister stove system that uses a Moulder Strip (I believe it’s named after the guy who pioneered it on another site). It’s a thin strip of copper that is secured against the side of the canister with the upper tip bent in and just touching the burner flame. It transfers heat back into the canister, warning it up and improving/restoring the performance of the fuel mixture in cold temperatures. Isobutane vaporizes at 11F, so once you drop below that, canister stoves become fussy, hard to control, inefficient, and often unusable. I’ve had really good experience using this setup in sub zero conditions. I certainly wouldn’t rely on it solely in those temps, but it’s a nice compact, lightweight, quick tool to have in the toolbox for things like a quick hit drink or rehydrated meal.

                  I also have a:
                  • Modified Sterno Inferno that runs on a Fancy Feast alcohol stove that absolutely screams
                  • Modified alcohol storm cooker system set made by Alocs and similar to the Trangia system
                  • Compact Trangia kettle cook kit with windscreen/stand and alcohol burner
                  • Vintage Coleman 2-burner liquid fuel suitcase-style stove that's got some miles and decades on it
                  • Vintager Coleman Peak 1 Feather 442 Dual Fuel stove
                  • Winnerwell FastFold Titanium wood stove that I've modified with a baffle and lower reflector/baking/browning tray

Growing up in the southwest and doing some camping in the rockies just about everyone I knew used a canister stove until winter comes along and then it's the MSR dragonfly. I used a jet boil for about 10 years but have traded out for a twig stove and msr 1 liter cooking pot.
