I live in the Chicago suburbs. Because of shrinking winters and iffy snow conditions, a trip to places with good conditions usually means a minimum 400 mile trip. By no choice of my own, I only go winter camping once a year. That's mainly due to my friends not being available more often than that, although the long drive is also a disincentive. Hopefully, that will change when I retire to somewheres around Lake Superior in a few years.
I own a Kifaru (alleged) 8-man tipi, which I've been using for about 12 years. I'll discuss that on a post I'll eventually make on the hot tent forum. I've built a few pieces of gear, nothing too serious, although I did build a stove which worked (and still probably works) nicely, but upgraded to a Four Dog UL2 3 years ago. I'm looking forward to building a flexible toboggan one of these days. I hope to be able to learn a thing or three here from the more experienced campers, and maybe pass some useful knowledge along as well.
