  • Hi Everybody

My name is Bob. I was born and raised in the Adirondack foothills, here in NY and I currently live in the central part of the state.

I've enjoyed camping all my life, but there's just something special about being out there in winter. The quiet solitude, a bright warm fire on a cold night, or the chill creeping in as the wood stove dies down and I batten down my bag for a good night's sleep. Sorry, I'm getting off track. 😁

Anyway, due to some health issues, I can't hit it as anywhere near as hard as I used to, but I'm still able to get out and enjoy it in a small way. It's a bitter pill to swallow, but it's better than the alternative.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and hopefully you won't mind an old has been hanging around.

    Thanks for having me,

    Bob

Bob - Welcome to the forum. I live down near Cooperstown and also have some issues I deal with from a health standpoint. That said, if you'd like to meet up sometime, let me know. I'm retired so my schedule can be rearranged most days without too many hassles. Still waiting for some good snow but I'm open to day hikes as well.

That's all for now. Take care and until next time....be well.

I can only speak for myself at this point, but I do think I resemble your remark just a bit...! Welcome to the forum, lots of good people here already.

Southcove, there seems to be a lot of that going around. At least I'm in good company.

Thanks for the welcome, I appreciate it.

Snapper, I'm actually in Plainfield, so we aren't far apart at all. Small world.

Thanks for the offer, it's much appreciated. I'll definitely take you up on it when this covid business abates some. I'll feel better about it when I can get vaccinated. I'm laying low until then.

Thanks again for your offer and the welcome.

Bob - Thanks for your reply. I certainly understand wanting to wait until vaccinations can take place. Southcove and I actually did a socially distant canoe trip this past summer; solo canoes, solo shelters, etc. It worked and I had a great time but summer allows for more spacing apart. Winter trips can't make things kind of cramped so no worries on my end. Contact me when you're comfortable with the situation and we'll set something up.

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.

Welcome bob! One of these days I want to make it out to the Adirondack mountain area.

Snapper, That sounds good to me and I appreciate your understanding. I have a couple friends that bust my chops over my trying to stay away from everybody, but with my "pre existing conditions", I'm afraid I'd end up a statistic and that would really limit my future outdoor excursions.

Thanks for the welcome Heavy Duty, I appreciate it.

You and everybody else here, for that matter, are more than welcome to join me on an Adk excursion some time. I'll feel better about the whole deal after I get the vaccination and I'm hoping it won't be too much longer now.

I have a little, well, I'll call it a shack, up there. Just a single room, with propane lights and wood stove, but it makes a nice stopover for the first night if I get there late, or after the drive, if you're coming from a ways off.

All kinds of possibilities and a lot of beautiful country. Keep it in mind and we can talk about it in the mean time. Thanks again,

                  Bob
