  • Hello from Vermont

Hi all! I'm absolutely, positively delighted to stumble into this forum...even as a latecomer. Just in time...I'd been going through withdraw after the loss of the old winter trekking site.

I've been a winter backpacker for close to 30 years--here in the northeast, the PNW, and for an all too-brief and wondrous stint, Alaska. Two years ago I discovered the joys of hot tenting and haven't really looked back. Since I'm mainly solo when I head out, I use a silnylon tent and ti stove...though I'm always a bit jealous of those of you lounging in snowtrekkers...except when hauling Between having a 19 month-old at home and taking prereqs for nursing programs, I haven't been getting out much this winter. But I dream of longer trips up in NW Maine (my old stomping grounds) and Quebec.

Looking forward to trading stories, tips, and questions with you all. Cheers!

Welcome, I had some fun hikes in VT around 2006-2010 with VFTT. Great folks. I didn’t have luck with my tipi nylon tent last year and ti stove. And yes, pulling the ST is tough in certain condition. Nursing good profession, my daughter is one. Enjoy your little one. Very cute picture.

Welcome from central NYS. I spend a lot of time in VT but not in my hot tent yet. Have friends in the southern portion of the state and travel through into NH (Charlestown specifically) for living history programs at Fort #4. Hope to bump into you at some point. I too end up going solo 99% of the time so I understand some of the frustration with that.

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.

Good to meet you! I saw your thread on your tent woes. What a bummer. Mine's worked fairly well for me (SO Redcliff), but I'd really like to add a sidewall a la Bothwell Voyageur (here). One day I'd like to try out a ST. The free-standing frame alone would save a lot of time in deep snow. Good on your daughter. Tough field to be in right now--I admire her for staying committed to it.

Likewise! I moved from NH to VT about 4 years ago but still have my cabin there. Not too far from Charlestown--I'm north of Lebanon by about 30 miles. Hope our paths do cross.

Hope you do! I saw you're from Omaha. Funny coincidence--We have some close friends across town who moved from there. Go Big Red! And Bugeaters.

Small world! Yeah, we live just north of Omaha where people dream of living places other than just north of Omaha. 😂
