Has anyone ever trekked the Granite River between Sag and Gunflint Lake in the BWCA? My main area’s of concern are above/below Sag Falls and Horsetail Falls. Via a map study it appears one could bypass this section using the portage from Sag into Morris Lake and then bushwack through a boggy area and come out south of Horsetail Falls. Would love to hear from anyone who’s done this or hear from anyone who’s done a winter crossing of the BWCA as this is what I’m aiming to do in the future. I’ve posted this on a few other platforms and haven’t gotten any responses yet. Thought I’d try here as well. I read a trip report years ago that someone posted on the old Wintertrekking site but damned if I can remember who posted it and I can’t seem to find it in the archives.

I haven’t done the route in question but do remember the trip report and used it as a reference for some of my trips. I believe the user’s name was Kaifus. He made it through there somehow so it must be doable. I have skied from Fall lake to Otter track if you questions about that section. You said you couldn’t find it in the archives, is wintertrekking archived somewhere on the internet? -
Snowbound, yes, someone archived the website, here is the link for http://web.archive.org/web/201906231...com/community/Comment

So, cruising around on the archived website, it appears that you cannot access anything in the old forum, like trip reports etc.... all the old topics on the main part of the site are intact but I guess all the info in the forum is lost. It’s a shame....Comment
