  • Svante Freden Reflector Oven

Cinnamon rolls might be my favorite food. Pair it with coffee and I'll eat a whole pan. I've always struggled with how to translate that to winter camping until I picked up this Svante Freden reflector oven from Ben Piersma (bensbackwoods.com) at the Winter Camping Symposium this year. Paired with frozen items like the Rhodes Bake-n-Serv cinnamon rolls, a guy could gain weight camping. Kudos to the maker of this oven and to Ben for carrying such a great line of products. (Also, please excuse the out-of-order stove pipe setup. The fine folks at Snowtrekker have since got me sorted. ❄ 😎 )

4estTrekker, those look like excellent cinnamon buns! Let me know if you need and company taking care of them ;-) Somehow cinnamon buns are a real comfort food - one never eats them unless all is right in all the other ways. And to combine them with some good coffee --- simply bliss!
Your baking set-up looks perfectly effective. One huge benefit of a reflector oven beside a wood stove is that you can so easily do a visual check on the progress of the baking!
    Well done!

Right on about cinnamon rolls! Just got back from a trip with snow and some decent overnight temps. I baked a pan of c-rolls as well as some frozen Screamin’ Cicilian calzones for dinner. Love finally having a stove you can actually cook with!

If you're ever in the area, I can modify your reflector oven to hang on the wood stove in my shop. They're a nice piece of gear to have. Ben sells them for a fair price, good dude.
I make some banging made from scratch biscuits and gravy over the wood stove with mine.

That would be awesome! I was wondering if there was a way to do that, given the shelf brackets on the stove. Many thanks!

All that baking looks good. I think it's important to eat the entire pan of cinnamon rolls, to prevent them from going stale. Calzones are a great idea for this type of camping.

I am curious about the mod to hang that reflector on the stove, since I have the same stove and reflector. Would love to see photos and give it a try myself.

This thread is also the first time I've seen that extension rack in the reflector for bigger pans. Is that a custom add-on or is it an update to Svante's design? In either case I can see the benefit and I'm going to add it to my old reflector. This will be my second update; the first was the handy rear kick stand that was added to Svante's design a few years ago.

Also a happy repeat customer of Ben's.

Yeah, according to Ben, that extension is an update to the oven, like the kickstand was. Pretty cool! Haven’t dumped any food yet. And yeah…gotta eat all those rolls! 😎 I also like those frozen flatbread pizzas in this oven.

Can't get enough of this reflector oven! Had it on a cabin trip at Tettegouche SP on the North Shore and have never eaten so well in the piney woods. Cinnamon rolls, baked potatoes, French bread, garlic bread, bread bread, cornbread muffins, you name it. Cabin approved!
